"There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks.  Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story." ~Linda Hogan

Starry Beech II

Watercolor Painting

Powder based watercolor on 140 lbs, acid-free, watercolor paper, 13.25" x 11.25"

This is the third in a series of Starry Tree paintings and the second in a set of Starry Beech  paintings.   Both starry beech paintings are based on a weeping beech tree that grows in Allentown, NJ.  It is a truly magnificent tree, which I believed is about 200 years old and it's still growing! Since Starry Beech and Starry Beech II are based on the grand old tree in Allentown, they have many similarities.  However, I decided to make the bark of each tree a different color.  Further, Starry Beech II is a variation of the form of Starry Beech. The branches in Starry Beech II are designed and composed in simpler way than Starry Beech.  Also, the quantity and positioning of the stars are different in each painting.  Maybe the two paintings can be considered to be the same tree in different years.
