PoetryWhat is poetry? Poetry is the art of words. Poetry is a way of artistically depicting and expressing a subject through words, and through the poetic elements, including sound, rhythm, rhyme, reason, metaphor, pun and so forth, that are inherently or intimately connected to words. Just as paintings are compositions of paint, poems are compositions of words. Further, the poetic elements are expressed through words just as color is expressed through paint. The interaction of the subject and the words, and elements, are important to me. I am interested in using the words (and elements) to capture the subject. To me, there is an endless sea of subjects for poems. Though the subjects I often choose come from personal experiences and sensory perceptions, historical events, nature, prayers and ideas about the Creator.
