Creativity, The Word and ArtGenesis 1:3, 5 - 6 "And Elohim said, Let there be Light: and Light was...And Elohim called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night...And Elohim said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters and them it divide the waters from the waters."" "The Word" is the means for Creation according the ancient Scriptures. If, on one hand, there was light because the Word was spoken (Genesis 1), and if everything was created through the Word (John 1:1-3 & 10; Colossians 1:16-17), then it is the case that the grand ultimate creative power of everything is the Word. People of all walks of life have a strong reliance on words to create and do work. For instance, words remind us and motivate us to complete a task. Accordingly, many people find it useful to write a goal or list of goals on a piece of paper to remind and motivate them to complete a task. Personally, when I write a list it is a helpful reminder to do what I wrote. The List takes on a meaning beyond the words themselves. In a way, writing the words represents a promise to do what I wrote. Now, this is just one simple way in which words might help us to live and do work, but there are many other ways too. The arts include some of those ways. Still, the arts don't serve only to show another way in which words are a powerful influence. I think the arts show a larger picture of the universe. The power of words to create songs, speeches, literature, theatre, film, radio, t.v. and so on are, I suggest, a small scale version of the Scriptural notion that the power of The Word created the universe. In the written or spoken arts, the word literally creates the art. For instance, in poetry words create the poems; in literature, film, theatre - words create characters, dialogue and the story. In the Scriptures the Word also literally creates (Psalm 33:6). Therefore, the arts reveal a link between words and people's creative process just as the Scriptures reveal a link between The Word and the Creator's creative process.
