Beaded Plants & Flowersby Rebecca Stecker
My Grandma Rebecca (my mother's mother) made arts and crafts her entire adult life. She knitted, made beaded plants and flowers, played piano, was a gardener, baker and cooked. As a child I remember watching her do these creative things and as an adult, when I began to understand the artistic process, I developed a great fondness for her beaded plants & flowers. Below is a small sample of the beaded creations, which she made. When it comes to beaded plants and flowers she had a highly refined sense of form, color and composition. She had excellent technique and a lot of patience when making arts and crafts. In our day and age we often make a distinction between fine art and crafts. But this distinction did not always exist. The work that my grandma made shows me that crafts require many of the same skills as "fine arts". Now whenever I see a quality "craft" it is evident to me that the craftsman is an artisan. My grandma did not make a living out of her arts and crafts, but she practiced and incorporated them into her daily life. And she used them to bless others. The following pictures are another way to share her gifts.
